O'Gean And Solava Help Loyola Slip Past Valparaiso, 1-0
April 6, 2008 VALPARAISO, Ind. - Lindsay O'Gean went 2 for 2 and doubled home the only run of the game to lead Loyola University Chicago (10-15, 5-3 Horizon) past Valparaiso (19-12, 4-2 Horizon), 1-0 this afternoon at Valparaiso Softball Field. The win snaps a three-game Loyola losing skid. The Ramblers, who got all four of their hits on the day from their Nos. 7-9 hitters in the lineup, got on the board in the top of the third inning. Kat Krause started the rally with a one-out bunt single and advanced to second base on a throwing error before O'Gean laced a run-scoring double to right center field. Loyola right-hander Amy Solava was masterful in the circle and made that slim margin hold up by continually workingout of jams en route to a complete-game victory. The 2007 Horizon League Pitcher of the Year scattered five hits and struck out five. Valparaiso had runners in scoring position in the first, second, fifth and sixth innings, but was unable to solve Solava. The sophomore twice worked out of one-out jams with a runner on third base. O'Gean finished the day with a pair of hits, while Krause and Nora Schober tallied the Ramblers' only other hits on the afternoon. The Ramblers step out of Horizon League play on April 8 when they host Northern Illinois in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. |
