Ambrosch Helps Power Loyola Past Youngstown State, 10-0

March 30, 2008

Box Score

CHICAGO - Freshman shortstop Haley Ambrosch homered twice to lead Loyola University Chicago (9-12, 4-1 Horizon) past Youngstown State (2-14, 0-3 Horizon), 10-0 in five innings this afternoon at Loyola Softball Park. With the win, the Ramblers swept the weekend series from the visiting Penguins and ran their winning streak to three games.

Loyola wasted no time taking the lead after Amy Solava yielded one hit, the only one on the day for Youngstown State, in the top of the first inning. Jenna Grim's one-out single scored Ellen Kresl and Angie Funston and later in the bottom half of the inning, Ambrosch walloped her first career home run, a three-run blast over the centerfield fence, to give Loyola a commanding 5-0 lead. The Ramblers would tack two more runs on the board before the inning was over en route to an early 7-0 lead.

Kristen Medrud's two-out, bases-loaded RBI single in the third inning put the Ramblers on top, 8-0 and Ambrosch finished the scoring in the bottom of the fourth with a mammoth home run over the netting in left center.

Solava was efficient in the circle, yielding only one hit and one walk, while striking out six Penguins. Ambrosch finished the day 2 for 3 with five RBI and a pair of runs, while Kresl went 3 for 3 at the top of the order. The Ramblers outscored the Penguins 25-2 in the weekend series.

Loyola is back in action Wednesday, April 2 when it plays a doubleheader at Wisconsin.
