Loyola Rolls Past Cal State Fullerton, 7-0

March 6, 2008

Box Score

FULLERTON, Calif. - Angie Funston went 4 for 4 and Nora Schober went 3 for 4 to help Loyola University Chicago (4-9) to a 7-0 victory at Cal State Fullerton (11-8-1) this evening. In addition to the solid hitting by Funston and Schober, the Ramblers received a sparkling pitching performance by 2007 Horizon League Pitcher of the Year Amy Solava.

After neither team was able to get much going in the first two innings, Loyola hung three runs on the board in the top of the third as Schober and Funston each recorded run-scoring singles. The game stayed that way until the Ramblers' half of the sixth when Schober doubled and later scored on Funston's double to give the guests a comfortable 4-0 lead.

Loyola tacked on three more insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning as Schober singled home Jenna Grim and Ellen Kresl scored on an error. Funston closed out Loyola's offensive outburst by singling home Schober to provide the final margin of victory as the Ramblers matched their run total from the previous five games combined (seven runs).

Solava was masterful in the circle, yielding only two hits and no walks, while striking out six Titans. Funston drove in three runs, while Schober scored three times, drove in a pair and stole a base. Freshman catcher Jenna Grim went 2 for 3 to complement Schober and Funston at the plate.

The Ramblers close out their trip to California by playing a doubleheader at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, March 8.
