Purdue Deals Loyola 4-0 Loss At Worth Invitational

March 2, 2008

Box Score

FULLERTON, Calif. - Amy Solava threw six innings of four-hit ball and did not allow an earned run while striking out eight, but Loyola University Chicago's (2-6) defense failed it in a 4-0 loss to Purdue this morning at the Worth Invitational. Loyola, which committed three errors in the game, has now dropped five straight contests since a 3-2 victory over Texas Tech on Feb. 9.

Loyola had a golden scoring chance in the second inning, putting runners on second and third with only one out, but was unable to score. Purdue rode the momentum of escaping that jam by plating three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-0 lead. All three runs were unearned, and the big blow came courtesy of a two-run single off the bat of Ashley Hall.

The Boilermakers tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning on Candace Curtis' RBI single.

Solava was impressive in the circle for the Ramblers, yielding only four hits, while fanning eight in the complete-game effort. Stephanie Cihar, Katie Duffy and Solava recorded the Ramblers' only hits in the game.

Loyola wraps up play at the Worth Invitational when it faces Pacific this afternoon.
