Youngstown State Sinks Loyola In Final Seconds, 66-64

Feb. 3, 2007

Box Score

Youngstown, Ohio - Youngstown State's Monique Godfrey scored on a floater in the lane with 8.2 seconds left to give the Penguins a 66-64 win over Loyola this evening at the Beeghly Center in Youngstown, Ohio. The hoop capped a 7-1 YSU run to end the game and dropped the Ramblers to 6-15 (4-6 Horizon). Youngstown State improves to 6-14 (4-6) with the win.

A pair of Jenna Real free throws gave Loyola a four-point lead at the 2:33 mark but Godfrey answered with a three-pointer from the left wing to cut the LU lead to one. The teams traded empty possessions before Jennifer Juergens was fouled on an offensive rebound at the 1:08 mark. She split the free throws to make it a two-point game and, despite a good defensive sequence, Youngstown State was able to score on a put-back to tie the game with just under 49 seconds left. Maggie McCloskey's jumper on the ensuing possession went halfway down before spinning out and Godfrey converted the game-winner in the lane. Loyola was unable to get a shot off at the end.

Hanser was joined in double figures by Real and Juergens
