Brian Guntli Named Third Team Academic All-America

June 12, 2007

CHICAGO - Brian Guntli (St. Louis, Mo./Saint Louis University High) has been selected to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's At-Large Third Team, it was announced today. The senior setter on the Ramblers' men's volleyball squad finished his career ranked second on the school's career assists list (5,231) and compiled a 3.80 grade-point average while majoring in statistics.

A member of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association All-Academic Team, Guntli helped Loyola to a No. 11 ranking in the final CSTV/AVCA Division I-II national poll and a 23-7 overall record in 2007. The 6-foot-3 setter doled out a season-high 71 assists versus Lewis on March 13 and recorded six double-doubles during the course of the year en route to his second straight First Team All-MIVA selection. His 12.61 assists per game ranked him eighth in the nation.

In four seasons in Rogers Park, Guntli quarterbacked the Ramblers to a total of 92 victories, including a school-record 26 in 2006. Guntli is also a two-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V honoree.
