Brian Guntli Named to CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

May 24, 2007

CHICAGO - Loyola University Chicago senior setter Brian Guntli was selected to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine District V Academic All-District squad, it was announced this morning. Guntli became the first-ever member of the men's volleyball program to receive the honor last season and is now the first to repeat.

A three-time academic all-conference selection by the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, Guntli earned First Team All-MIVA honors for the second consecutive season after setting up the Ramblers with 12.61 assists per game, ranking second in the conference and eighth in the nation.

Guntli ended his career second on Loyola's all-time career assist list with 5,231 assists and is fifth with 598 career digs.

Guntli accumulated 1,387 assists this season, the fourth-most in school history, while guiding Loyola to its second consecutive 23-7 season and its seventh consecutive appearance in the MIVA Tournament semifinals. He recorded a season-best 71 assists against Lewis on March 13 and posted six double-doubles (assist, digs) on the year. Guntli graduated from Loyola with a Bachelor of Science degree in Statistics.

The Ramblers finished 11th in the final CSTV/AVCA Division I-II national poll and third in the MIVA regular-season standings.
