No. 14 Loyola Set to Make First-Ever Trip to MSOE
March 20, 2007 CHICAGO - The No. 14 Loyola University Chicago men's volleyball team has won all six of the previous meetings but will make its first-ever trip to the Milwaukee School of Engineering for a MIVA crossover match at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the Kern Center. Following a nine-match win streak through most of February and into early March, the Ramblers (15-6, 5-3 MIVA Shondell/Dunlap) have split their last four matches but got a pair of double-doubles from Brian Guntli and Nathan Gustus to earn a 3-0 win (30-24, 30-27, 30-22) against Quincy on Saturday. In Guntli's second double-double performance in the last three matches, he led the Rambler attack to a .337 hitting percentage with a match-high 35 assists and finished second on the team with 10 digs. Gustus had 10 kills on a .444 hitting percentage (10-2-18) and a match-high 11 digs for his fourth career double-double and third of the season. The Ramblers have had 10 double-double performances through this season's 21 matches. In the last meeting on Jan. 16, junior opposite hitter Ian Anderson and freshman George Kamberos both registered double-figures in kills for the second consecutive match to lead Loyola to a 30-20, 30-19, 30-20 victory over MSOE in Alumni Gym. Anderson had a match-high 13 kills on 28 attempts for a .321 hitting percentage along with four blocks and two digs. Kamberos turned in his second double-figure kill performance in only the second match of his career with 10 kills on 14 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage and added five digs, four ace serves and two blocks. MSOE was led by Michael Mocchi's 12 kills, six digs and two ace serves. The Red Raiders (7-14, 2-3 MIVA Coleman) have lost their last five matches and have yet to take a game from the Ramblers in their previous six meetings, all 3-0 sweeps. |
