Matt Martin enters his third season as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Loyola. He brings a wealth of experience to the program, having spent his first five years of coaching at his alma mater, Ohio State, which included an NCAA Final Four appearance in 2005. The Cardington, Ohio native has also been an assistant at Rutgers-Newark and coached two seasons of women's volleyball at the NCAA Division III level.

In two seasons at Loyola, Martin has helped guide the Ramblers to 34 victories, while coaching six All-MIVA selections, including 2009 First Team pick, Kris Berzins, who also was an ESPN the Magazine Second Team Academic All-District V pick. During this past season, Martin was chosen as one of the recipients for the inaugural "Thirty Under 30 Award," as selected by the AVCA. The award recognizes 30 of the top coaches under 30 years of age at all volleyball levels. To be eligible, nominees had to be AVCA members and under the age of 30 in 2009. He was one of just two Division I-II men's coaches selected from the group of 30 individuals.

Over the past eight years, Martin also coached with USA Volleyball, during which time he helped teams to a multitude of accomplishments including aiding the 2007 USA Men's Junior National Team to a seventh-place finish at the World Championships. He also helped the 2007 USA Youth A2 Red win the High Performance Championship gold medal in the Boys International Youth Division and helped the 2006 USA Men's Junior National Team claim a silver medal at the NORCECA World Championships, in addition to assisting the 2006 USA Youth A2 Red squad that captured the silver at the High Performance Championship in the Boys International Youth Division.

Martin graduated cum laude from Ohio State in 2004 and earned a bachelor's degree in sport and leisure studies.
