Shane Davis

Player Profile

Position:
Head Coach

Experience:
Fourth Season

Alma Mater:
Loyola (2003)

Only four years removed from his playing days at Loyola, fourth-year head coach Shane Davis has become one of the most accomplished coaches in the nation, leading the Ramblers to the two of the most winning seasons in school history in 2005 and 2006. Last season, Davis led the Ramblers to a 23-7 record en route to winning his second consecutive MIVA Coach of the Year award. Davis has coached four All-Americans (Scott Greene, James Grunst, Chris Kozlarek and Krystian Krzyzak) and 14 All-MIVA honorees during his stint, including 2006 MIVA Player of the Year Chris Kozlarek.

Davis and the Ramblers posted their best record in school history in 2005, 26-3 overall and 15-1 in the MIVA. Loyola went on a 21-match winning streak, owned the best winning percentage in the nation for weeks and captured the MIVA regular-season title. Davis then traveled to help train the U.S. men's Under-21 National Team in Lake Placid, N.Y. as an assistant coach under John Speraw. The team traveled to India in mid-August to compete in the FIVB Under-21 World Championship, where the Americans finished 2-3 in Pool B play and placed eighth overall.

As a collegiate volleyball player at Loyola, Davis was a mainstay in the Rambler lineup. He finished his career with 5,337 assists, becoming the only player in LU history to reach the 5,000-assist plateau. During his senior year, Davis earned Second-Team All-America honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association and led Loyola to the nation's second-higest hitting percentage (.380). Davis was also selected as Loyola University's Male Athlete of the Year in addition to being a First Team All-MIVA selection.

"Shane is very familiar with Loyola and the men's volleyball program," Loyola Director of Athletics John Planek said. "He is well respected by his peers, the Loyola community, and his former teammates while his career accomplishments speak for themselves. As a player, he served as a coach on the floor and is a proven leader."

A native of Denver, Iowa, Davis received All-MIVA honors all four years he competed as a Rambler, including three first-team honors. Davis led Loyola to 78 wins in his collegiate career, highlighted by a record-setting season in 2002, where the Ramblers went 24-6 and reached the MIVA Tournament Finals.
