Harrigan Named U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week
Sept. 4, 2008
CHICAGO - Loyola senior Kevin Harrigan has been selected this week's U.S. Army Horizon League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week, League commissioner Jonathan B. LeCrone announced yesterday. Harrigan's defensive efforts helped propel the Ramblers to their 2-1 defeat of then- No. 5 Santa Clara, the highest ranked team they have ever defeated. Following the win, Loyola (1-0-1) achieved another new feat, earning a spot in its first ever national poll, coming in at No. 30 on the College Soccer News Top 30 National Poll and No. 24 in the Soccer America Top 25 poll. The defender also registered a pair of shots in a scoreless draw at Cincinnati on Sept. 1. Harrigan is a math/secondary education major, with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.51 and has also been a member of the Horizon League's Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours and perform well during the week's competition. Winners are selected by a group of League faculty athletic representatives, from nominations provided by sports information directors. The Ramblers return to action tomorrow when they travel to Denver for a match at 5:00 p.m., Central. |
