The Loyola men's soccer team (4-3-2) dropped a heartbreaking contest to the undefeated No. 3 Northwestern Wildcats (7-0-1) on Wednesday afternoon at Lakeside Park by a score of 1-0. The loss is the first for the Ramblers in over two weeks and the first time they have been held scoreless this season.

The lone goal of the match came in just over six minutes of action when Northwestern freshman forward Matt Eliason notched his fourth goal of the season, a through ball from teammate Drew Ratner, for the eventual match-winner.

Both teams battled back and forth throughout the match, but were unable to score. Loyola junior keeper Brian Byrne was able to keep the game close as he recorded three saves in 90-minutes of action.

Loyola came close to tying it up in the final seconds of the match when senior Keum Sung Kim's eight-yard shot from the left side was saved by Northwestern keeper Misha Rosenthal to preserve the Wildcat victory.

The Ramblers return to action on Friday, October 5 when they travel to Michigan to take on Horizon League foe Detroit at 3 p.m.
