Favela's Impressive Effort Lifts Loyola In Season-Opening Meet
Sept. 9, 2006 IOWA CITY, Iowa - Sophomore Armando Favela carded a 141 (72-69) through 36 holes today to sit in second place overall, just one shot off the lead, as Loyola University Chicago's men's golf team rests tied for third place after two rounds at the Hawkeye Intercollegiate at Finkbine Golf Course. The Ramblers posted a 288 in round two, the best score of the day, to finish today's action with a 591 (303-288), which ranks tied with South Dakota State for third place. Iowa leads the nine-team pack with a 582 (292-290). Favela shot a one-over-par 72 in round one, before bouncing back with a two-under 69 to conclude play today just one shot off the lead. Freshman Thomas Greene, a member of a highly touted freshman class, which was making its first collegiate appearance, is positioned in 19th place after 36 holes with a score of 149 (78-71). Green e and Favela were the lone Loyola golfers to record even-par-or-lower rounds today. Senior Frank Linquist notched a 151 (76-75) to tie for 22nd, while freshmen Peter Tomkie (80-73=153) and Robert Caplin (77-77=154) round out Loyola's entries in the meet.
