GALENA, Ohio (May 3, 2005) – Senior Nicole Puch closed out her career in style, firing a 242 (82-83-77) to help Loyola University Chicago to a third-place showing at the 2005 Horizon League Golf Championships at Royal American Links. The Rambler women posted a 1,027, behind Butler (972) and Youngstown State (1,020), while Cleveland State (1,067) and Detroit (1,099) trailed Loyola.

On the men’s side, Loyola finished seventh (941), trailing Detroit (891), Wright State (897), UW-Green Bay (898), Cleveland State (899), Butler (925) and Youngstown State (935).

Puch trailed only Butler’s Lynnsey Showers (76-74-76), who won medalist honors with a 226. Sarah Van Vooren (89-88-85 = 262) and Michelle Puch (90-86-87 = 263) earned top 15 finishes, placing 12th and tied for 13th, respectively. Rachael Sinnen placed 17th with a 267 (91-86-90) and Marissa Capriola took 22nd with a 280 (105-92-83).

Nicole Puch and Capriola also took home All-Horizon League accolades for the second straight campaign.

The Rambler men were consistent from top to bottom in the lineup as only five strokes separated the top four scorers. Keith Nelson (79-76-80), who earned All-Horizon League honors for the first time in his career, Aaron Harter (82-76-77) and Michael Wieland (81-73-81) each tied for 23rd with scores of 235. Frank Linquist tied for 31st with a 240 (81-75-84) and Dan Mattingly carded a 243 (85-78-80). Wieland’s second-round, one-over 73 was the best round by a Rambler in the two-day tournament.
