Favela Earns All-Horizon League Honors
April 30, 2008
CHICAGO - Capping an outstanding season, Loyola University Chicago men's golfer Armando Favela (Tijuana, Mexico/St. Augustine) was named to the All-Horizon League Team, it was announced yesterday. The left-handed junior led the team in scoring average for the second straight season and posted four top-ten finishes in 2007-08. Earlier this week, he tied for sixth place at the Horizon League Championship by posting a 54-hole score of 223 (76-74-73) to help Loyola to a fourth-place team finish. At the two-day event held at Shaker Run Golf Course in Lebanon, Ohio, Favela shot a one-over-par 73 in the final round of play on April 29 for the lowest mark by a Rambler at the event. That performance helped earn him All-Tournament Team honors as well. Favela owned a team-best 75.3 average and was the only Rambler to compete in all 30 rounds this season. He shot under-par on four occasions, including a career-best 65 in round one at the IPFW Fall Classic on Oct. 8. At the Caputo Invitational hosted by Loyola, April 14-15, Favela earned medalist honors by posting a 220 (71-77-72) as Loyola also captured the team title. Next week, Favela will participate at the 22nd PGA Minority Collegiate Championship at The PGA Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. All-Horizon League Team Newcomer of the Year: Jeff Clarridge, Detroit |
