Loyola Men's Golf In Contention At Horizon League Championships
April 30, 2007 LEBANON, Ohio - Thanks to the dazzling play of freshman Thomas Greene and sophomore Armando Favela, Loyola University Chicago is within striking distance of leader Detroit after 36 holes of play at the Horizon League Championships at Shaker Run Golf Course. The Ramblers posted a team score of 605 today and trail leader Detroit (588) and UW-Green Bay (595) with one round left to play in the tournament. Greene fired a one-under-par 71 in the opening round this morning before closing with a 76 this afternoon. After struggling in the front nine in round two, the rookie bounced back to shoot even par on the back nine en route to the 76. In round one, Greene posted two birdies and eagled the par-five, 485-yard fourth hole, en route to the lowest score of the round by any player in the tournament. The left-handed Favela was consistent, firing a 74 in round one followed by a 75 in round two. Peter Tomkie (81-75) and Sean Bidzinski (77-79) each carded a 156 while Frank Linquist, the lone senior in the Loyola lineup, turned in a 157 (81-76) today. The teams will play a final 18 holes tomorrow to determine the Horizon League champion, who will will represent the League at the NCAA Regional. Team Results Thru Two Rounds |
