Favela To Compete In PGA Minority Collegiate Championship

April 21, 2008

CHICAGO - Loyola University Chicago junior Armando Favela will be one of 42 individual men's golfers to compete at the 22nd PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship, May 8-11, at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The 54-hole, stroke-play championship features 175 participants, competing individually or as a team, representing 36 colleges and universities.

The left-hander leads the Ramblers with a 75.4 average through 27 rounds this season. He has fired four under-par rounds this year and last week earned medalist honors at the Caputo Invitational at Pine Meadow Golf Course in Mundelein, Ill.

The goal of the PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship was to elevate the game of golf in minority colleges and universities by giving them a chance to compete in a championship because of being denied opportunities to compete in NCAA Collegiate Golf events. The first Championship was conducted in the spring of 1987 and since 1998, The PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla., has been host to the Championship.
