Men’s Golf Opens Spring Season with Sixth-Place Showing

PICKWICK DAM, TENN. (March 9, 2005) – The Loyola University Chicago men’s golf team kicked off its spring season by placing sixth at the 10-team Grover Page Classic which concluded yesterday. The trip was the first leg of the Ramblers’ spring trip. Loyola finished with a 929 (306-311-312), while Belmont carded an 880 to claim the title.
Loyola opened the tournament by posting a team score of 306 in the opening round on Sunday, to find itself in fifth place, one stroke ahead of Lewis. However, the Ramblers carded team totals of 311 followed by a 312 to conclude the three-day event in sixth place.
Keith Nelson (76-76-78) placed tied for 28th with a 230, while Matt Krummel (81-72-78) notched a 231 to tie for 32nd and Frank Linquist (78-76-78) carded a 232 to tie for 34th place. Michael Wieland (83-77-75) finished 42nd, followed by Aaron Harter (76-82-81) in 50th place. Dan Mattingly (76-85-85) placed 54th and Craig Cornwall (84-87-87) finished 62nd to round out the Ramblers’ roster.
Loyola wraps up its spring trip when it competes at the Ft. Lauderdale Spring Classic, March 10-11.
