Favela Leads Loyola As Men's Golf Wraps Up Play At John Piper Intercollegiate
Sept. 19, 2006
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Armando Favela fired an even-par 72 today to help Loyola University Chicago tie for ninth place at the John Piper Intercollegiate at Stone Ridge Golf Course. The Ramblers and the University of Cincinnati finished with identical scores of 618 and were only 10 strokes shy of fifth place. Eastern Kentucky rolled to the title with a 575. Favela, who was also Loyola's top golfer at the Hawkeye Intercollegiate a week ago, bounced back from a round of 79 yesterday to record the even-par score in today's final round of competition. Freshman Thomas Greene, one of two freshmen competing in the Ramblers' lineup, was steady as he recorded a 153 (76-77) to finish tied for 26th. Sean Bidzinski, the 2006 Horizon League Newcomer of the Year, tied for 47th (76-82=158) in his first appearance of the season. Freshman Peter Tomkie, who notched a two-over 74 yesterday, shot an 86 today to finish tied for 55th with a 160, while senior Frank Linquist placed 61st with a 161 (79-82). The Ramblers are back in action next week when they compete in the John Dallio Memorial hosted by DePaul University, Sept. 25-26, at Prairie Landing Golf Club in West Chicago, Ill.
