Loyola Men's Golf Captures Fourth Place At Horizon League Championship
April 29, 2008
LEBANON, Ohio - For the fourth straight season, the Loyola University Chicago men's golf team has finished in fourth place at the Horizon League Championship as play concluded at this year's tournament with 18 holes of action today. Loyola completed a stirring comeback today by leapfrogging three teams to finish fourth. The Ramblers recorded a 921 to place fourth as a mere five strokes separated the fourth-place team from the seventh-place squad. Cleveland State won the title with an 892, slipping past defending champion Detroit by one stroke, to claim the League's automatic bid to the NCAA Regional. Junior Armando Favela turned in another strong effort, leading the Ramblers by placing tied for sixth in the 54-hole tournament with a 223 (76-74-73). He fired a one-over-par 73 in today's final round at Shaker Run Golf Course and was a model of consistency, recording par on 15 of 18 holes this afternoon. Robert Caplin carded a three-over 75 today to finish tied for 19th with a 232 (78-79-75), while Sean Bidzinski (78-77-78=233) and Dylan Gergen (76-79-79=234) were right on Caplin's heels to finish 23rd and tied for 24th, respectively. Thomas Greene finished with a 247 (77-84-86), which earned him 32nd place. Loyola returns all but one player on its current roster next year as it looks to break through and earn its first-ever NCAA berth. Final Team Results |
