Loyola Announces 1970s Men's Basketball All-Decade Team

Nov. 21, 2008

CHICAGO - Loyola University Chicago saw several men's basketball players enjoy standout careers during the 1970s. In an effort to honor the great players from that era, Loyola has announced its 1970s All-Decade Team, a collection of 11 of the best players to wear a Rambler uniform in that time frame. Two of the individuals on the 1970s All-Decade Team are members of the Loyola Athletics Hall of Fame.

The 11-person team is highlighted by four former NBA draft picks - LaRue Martin, Ralph Vallot, Andre Wakefield and Larry Knight. Martin was the No. 1 overall selection in the 1972 NBA draft by the Portland Trailblazers.

Joining that quartet on the Loyola 1970s All-Decade Team is Rodney Callahan (1974-78), Paul Cohen (1970-74), Tad Dufelmeier (1975-77), John Hunter (1976-79), Houston Lloyd (1975-78), Tony Parker (1973-77) and Frank Sanders (1970-74).

The 11 individuals will be recognized at the Ramblers' home game against UMKC on Dec. 13 and the current Loyola team will wear replica jerseys from the 1970s on that day.
