Cross Country heads to Horizon League Championships

10/26/2004

Both teams grabbed second-place finishes last year

Chicago, Ill. (October 25, 2004) – The men’s and women’s cross country teams will head to UW-Parkside in Kenosha, Wis. for the Horizon League Championships this Saturday, October 30th. Last year the both teams placed second with Andrew McQuillan (Geneva, Ill.) leading the men and Amanda Domich (Algonquin, Ill.) leading the women.

Strong competitors on the men’s side this year have included Shawn Lucas (Elgin, Ill.) and Sam Romanoski (Lake Zurich, Ill.). Lucas not only led the Ramblers at UW-Parkside earlier this season finishing the course in 25:25 for fourth place, but he led the team at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational. Romanoski had team-high finishes at Iowa and the Chili Pepper Invite in Arkansas.

On the women’s side, Maureeca Lambert (Bloomington, Ill.) has grabbed a team-high finish in each meet this season. At the Sean Earl Lakefront Lambert finished in third place with a mark of 17:31. Also performing strongly again this year is sophomore Domich. Domich finished the Midwest Collegiate course in 18:12 for fourth place.

Head coach Marc Burns is confident in his squads as they head into the championships stating, "This is the time where all of the hard work over the summer and throughout the fall pays off in the form of outstanding racing. We are coming on strong this year late in the season and should be at our best over the next few weeks. The Horizon League meet is very important to us and our goal is always to battle for the championship. Performing at our best brings great pride to all of the athletic programs at Loyola and we promise to run our hearts out this weekend!".
