Cross Country Teams Complete Season Opener at Iowa

Both teams had strong individual finishes

Chicago, Ill. (September 10, 2004) – The Loyola cross country teams are off to a new season after their first meet today at the University of Iowa. On the women’s side the Ramblers fell second to Iowa (22-33) but finished on top of Northwestern (23-32). The men finished second to both Iowa (17-29) and Wisconsin (27-28).
The top finishers on the women’s side were sophomores Maureeca Lambert and Amanda Domich coming in fourth and fifth place with a time of 14:41 in the 4,000m course. Coming in ninth was junior Anna Hintershied (15:14) with teammates Sara Covert (15:27) and Rachel Hansen (15:34) close behind in eleventh and twelfth places respectively. Courtney Tumpach began her senior year grabbing 25th place with a mark of 16:09.
The men’s top finisher was sophomore Sam Romanski coming in sixth place with a final time of 25:29 in the 8,000m run. Shawn Lucas (26:04) captured 12th, with Eduardo Borjon (26:24) right behind in 13th place. Sophomore Brent Cunningham finished in 15th place with a mark of 26:35. Grabbing 17th was Andy Sbertoli (27:40) while Joe Mahalick (28:21) and Dan Carlson (29:09) rounded off the top twenty.
