Loyola Track and Field Shines at Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. - The Loyola University Chicago track and field program continued its impressive performances as it competed at the Duke Invitational, Stanford Invite and Chicagoland Championships over the weekend. Genevieve Binnie highlighted the weekend as she won the women's 5,000m at the Duke Invite.

Binnie's time of 17:44.93 was good for a first-place finish in the 5k run at Duke. Placing second in the women's 5,000m was senior Ashley Raymond who garnered a time of 17:49.15. Freshman Alison Rack followed with a 19th-place finish with a time of 18:35.60.

On the men's side, freshman Ben Reifenberg recorded a personal-best outdoor time of 3:57.23 in the men's 1,500m. He bettered his previous time by one second as he finished 23rd out of 46 competitors. Sophomore Matt McCabe shaved four seconds off his time last week at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 4:01.27 for a 33rd-place finish.

The men's 4x400m relay team ran their fastest outdoor time of the year as they secured a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:17.30. Jamar Johnson placed ninth out of 25 competitors in the men's long jump with a personal-best mark of 20-09.00.

Jessie Morgenthal led the Ramblers at the Chicagoland Championships as she placed eighth among 54 competitors in the women's 1,500m run. Her time of 4:49.44 is a new personal-best. Rounding out the Loyola women were Jena Brown (4:49.67) who earned a ninth-place finish, Danielle Locascio (5:12.74) who placed 23rd, Caitlin Ferry (5:13.05) who garnered 24th and Caitlin Smith (5:30.19) who finished 39th overall.

The women's team of Christina James, Rebecca Taylor, Julia Higgins and Lauren Smith won the 4x100m relay in the second heat to finish fifth overall with a time of 49.72.

In the field, Jordan Rohlfing set three new personal records in the women's shot put, discus and javelin. The freshman from Omaha, Neb., recorded a 36-01.25 mark for a 15th-place finish in the shot put, then recorded a 73-06.00 mark in the javelin throw. Rohlfing registered a 112-08.00 mark in the discuss for an 18th-place finish out of 47 competitors.

At the Stanford Invite, Joe Mahalick (1:53.51) and Cliff Cook (1:57.74) placed 20th and 46th, respectively in the men's 800m, while Amanda Domich garnered a 22nd-place finish with a time of 36.51.12 in the women's 10,000m.

The Ramblers compete again on Saturday, April 12 at Elmhurst and UNC.
