Loyola Track and Field Posts Numerous Noteworthy Performances At Horizon League Championships

KENT, Ohio - The Loyola University Chicago track and field program put together another impressive weekend of personal-bests at the Horizon League Championships in Kent, Ohio. The Ramblers were led by senior Joe Mahalick, as he bettered his previous personal-best by one second to win the 800m. Mahalick posted a swift 1:51.98 in the 800m, while Cliff Cook shaved four seconds off his personal-best to place second. Cook recorded a 1:52.82 and was followed by Sam McClain who also notched a personal-best of 1:56.58 to place seventh. Jimi Bleicher finished eighth with a time of 2:02.08. Freshman Anthony Wile knocked five seconds off of his previous personal-best to garner a seventh-place finish in the men's 3,000m. Wile recorded a time of 8:51.17 to lead the Ramblers and was followed by Ben Reifenberg who placed 11th overall (9:02.11). Reifenberg also placed third in the mile run with a time of 4:16.04. Matt McCabe came in 12th in the mile recording a time of 4:34.25. On the women's side, Genevieve Binnie guided the Ramblers with a personal-record of 17:40.77 in the 5,000m. Binnie sliced 11 seconds off of her previous personal-best and finished third among 20 runners. Alison Rack also had an impressive performance knocking 14 seconds off of her best time to garner a fourth-place finish with a time of 17:57.56. Binnie recorded another personal-record in the women's 3,000m when she shaved six seconds off her previous personal-best to finish fifth among 28 competitors with a time of 10:17.05. Pam Staton improved her personal-best time in the mile run by one second, as she garnered a time of 5:04.47 for a fifth-place finish. Rack's personal-record by five seconds (5:10.12) was good for sixth-place as Jessie Morgenthal placed seventh with a time of 5:15.06. As a team, the Loyola men placed fifth, while the women secured seventh place. The Ramblers are back at it on March 7 and 8, when they travel to Notre Dame, Ind., to compete in the Alex Wilson Invitational. |
