Sterling Moss, the Ramblers' resident sprints, jumps and relays coach, begins his sixth season with the Loyola cross country and track and field programs. Moss has led 26 different student-athletes to school records, while 15 have gone on to win Horizon League Championships. Last season, Moss saw his relay teams achieve success, especially at the League Championships. The women's indoor 4x400m relay team set a school record for the event (3:54.87), winning the League title in the process. The men's outdoor 4x400m and 4x100m relay teams each took second at the Championships, while the indoor 4x400m relay placed third. The women's outdoor 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams also put together fourth-place finishes at the Championships. Moss' runners also experienced individual success in 2008-09. Freshman Nicole Noelliste finished the 60m hurdles in 9.02 at the Indoor League Championships, which was good for second place and a new school record. Fellow freshman Devin Gosberry took first place in the 400m at the Indoor and Outdoor League Championships and also set a school record in the indoor 400m (55.63). After taking the league title in the 400m, Gosberry improved her time by 0.19 seconds under Moss' direction, recording a 54.14 at the Georgia Tech Invitational to eclipse her own record. Another school record fell when sophomore Brianna Walker ran the 60m in 7.93 at the Indoor League Championships. The sprinters on the men's side produced multiple top-10 finishes at the League Championships as well. Moss brought an impressive resume to Rogers Park after completing a three-year stint as the assistant track coach at Lewis University, where he coached 14 All-Americans at the NCAA Division II level. A native of the Bahamas, Moss has coached numerous athletes to compete at the collegiate and international levels, including the Olympic Games and was the head coach of the Bahamas National Track Team that competed at the 2000 IAAF World Junior Championships in Puerto Rico. A 1987 graduate of Loras College in Iowa, Moss was a three-time Iowa Conference champion and qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships in the 60, 100 and 200-meter dashes. He holds the school record in the 100-meter with a time of 10:54 and was a member of the school-record-holding 4x400-meter relay team that earned All-America honors. |
